Jadeja’s trade to RR - What it means to CSK?
An all rounder who could give you 4 overs day in day out, be your 2nd spinner/3rd seamer and bat in top 6 in T20 is a very rare pedigree. There are very few in the IPL - Jadeja, Washie, Hardik, Axar, Narine, Krunal, Moeen and S Curran.
There are other all rounders batting in the top 6 who could chip in with a couple of overs, on the day when the conditions really suit them/when in good rhythm they can give 4 overs. Namely - Maxwell, Dube, V Iyer, Green, Stoinis, W Jacks, Livingstone, Bethel, Shepherd, N Reddy, J Overton, Rachin, etc…
Considering this skill set Jadeja’s trade to RR leaves a huge hole in CSK’s playing XI. Jadeja being the lead spinner, permitted Dhoni to bat at 8, followed by 3 seamers and 1 spinner.
Jadeja’s departure means CSK needs to find one such all rounder and there is non available apart from Moeen Ali. Won’t be surprised if CSK pick Moeen again this year.
Tried figuring out other options for CSK considering they go in with a large purse
OPTION 1:
- Aayush
- Ruturaj
- Samson
- V Iyer
- Dube
- Brevis
- J Overton
- Dhoni
- S Gopal/R Chahar/Sai Kishore
- Noor
- Khaleel
- Ellis
Here you get 16 overs from your bowlers and 4 overs from J Overton, Dube, V Iyer. Weak like but seems the best XI CSK could make.
Option 2:
- Aayush
- Ruturaj
- Samson
- V Iyer
- Dube
- Brevis
- Dhoni
- J Holder
- S Gopal/R Chahar/Sai Kishore
- Noor
- Khaleel
- Ellis
Holder replaces Overton, but at No. 8. Off late his bowling has been good in T20s.
