Ephesians 5:29 Question
Hello! This is my first post on reddit, I am a faithful follower of Christ, and I have been for the past 6 years. Just wanted to reach out and ask this question from Ephesians 5, I am having a difficult time wrapping my head around this, and I am hoping someone can guide me properly through this. Here is the context:
'that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. '
Ephesians 5:27-30
I am looking to understand the meaning of verse 29. I find it a confusing statement with the knowledge of the self-hatred out there in the world, (suicide, self-harm, body shame, etc...) You could even go to the extent of mentioning what kamikaze pilots would play as role in this scenario, seeing they took no respect to nourishing or cherishing their body amidst the final destination flight. Would appreciate genuine and well thought out responses, God bless you all!
