how to order a cortado at a coffee shop???

recently, cortadoes have been my go-to coffee drink, and espresso macchiato if I am in a hurry.

I find it fun to order them because I never know what I will get!

It seems every coffee shop knows espresso macchiato, but many times cortado is not on the menu or I get a confused look. I don't want to be an annoying customer lol, I just want to know how to order it. Should I say espresso with alittle milk, or equal parts espresso and milk?
