DS9 'In the Pale Moonlight' Theory
So I'm re-watching DS9 for probably the hundredth time and I just finished 'In the Pale Moonlight.' It is obvious that Garak is a masterful manipulator in this episode, but what if he's even more masterful than we thought? What if he never made contact with anyone on Cardassia AND there was no one selling the data rod?
**First Piece of Evidence:** Garak tells Sisco to say that "At least ten good officers lost their lives getting [the data rod] across the line" to manipulate Senator Vreenak. Garak has already done this very thing when he told Sisco all of the men he had contacted had been killed. Garak obviously has no qualms about lying to the senator, why would he have qualms about lying to Sisco aboutthe same thing?
**Second Piece of Evidence:** Bashir objects to supplying bio-mimedic gel because it can be used to create organic explosives. I have to think that organic explosives are either more destructive or easier to conceal than regular explosives or they wouldn't be worth mentioning. I think the latter because if it is true, it makes sense that the romulans - the race with paranoia written into their genetic code - didn't find the bomb for about two days.
Garak is Obviously already a master at what he does. I just think maybe this could be another layer to that mastery.
