doubts about job market and unemployment
Hi everyone,
I’m considering Finland for master’s studies related to wireless technology (5G/6G, communications engineering, embedded/FPGA, etc.) and I’d like to understand the current job market a bit better.
I keep hearing mixed things — some saying Finland is going through a tough period with layoffs and slow hiring, especially in the tech sector. At the same time, Finland is known globally for 5G/6G research, and companies like Nokia, Keysight, Bittium, and various R&D labs still appear to be active in wireless and future network technologies.
So I wanted to ask people living/working in Finland:
- How difficult is it right now for a non-EU graduate to get a job or thesis position in wireless communications, signal processing, embedded systems, or related 5G/6G areas?
- Are Nokia and other telecom companies hiring, or is recruitment relatively frozen?
- Do universities like Aalto/Oulu still have strong industry collaboration that leads to jobs, or has that slowed down too?
- Is the situation expected to improve soon, or is the slump likely to continue for a while?
I’m not looking for sugar-coating — just a realistic picture of how things are for international students and engineers aiming at the wireless/telecom sector in Finland.
Thanks in advance!
