I think I’m experiencing a mental rewiring as I try to focus on one product instead of building many things.
I’ve been enjoying building too much in the past 3 years without any marketing or commitment to one project long enough. I’m doing some sort of an experiment, I’m focusing on one app to try and grow it, I’m trying to not build anything else. There are a few things I’m noticing.
-
I now care about the performance of my TikToks. Because I’m building less, I guess I’m devoting more brain power to making content than before.
-
I look for content ideas when I’m on my phone. Less random stuff.
-
Because I’m an ideas guy, zooming into one thing has made my ideas also focus on this one project. So my ideas are focused too.
-
I like to experiment, so I’ve tried many distribution channels for different products. I want to use all the learnings from the different distribution channels, but apply them to one product. Google ads, Meta ads, Tiktok, funnels, onboarding.
-
I’m building with distribution in mind. For example how the data is presented on the app should take into account that I might create video screenshots to use for marketing.
Focusing on one thing allows you to compound faster. The learning compounds faster too. Not sure why I’m only realising this now. The biggest mistake I might be making here is choosing the wrong niche. However, I’ve seen “stupid” niches make money. If focus is really important, I will prove it if I at least make some money.
