Thanks r/macapps! Gubb app just got a solid improvement boost

Lifetime

Hey r/macapps! 👋

A quick follow-up from my previous post where I shared my little productivity app, Gubb, and gave away some promo codes.

I honestly didn’t expect that much interest or the amount of thoughtful feedback that came in. A lot of you pointed out small annoyances, missing polish, and a few ideas that I hadn’t even thought of — so thank you. 🙏

I spent the past month going through every comment, DM, and bug report, and pushed an update that reflects a big chunk of what you all mentioned.

What’s new (thanks to this community):

✨ Local AI Transcription
Several people said relying on an API key for voice-to-text was inconvenient (and in some cases, a dealbreaker). So I built offline transcription using local AI models - no cloud, no API key, everything processed on-device. The accuracy and speed surprised me, honestly.

🔤 Better Typography
A few of you mentioned readability issues, so I added new font options and tuned text rendering across the app.

🖥️ System Tray Access
One request that came up over and over - “Can I keep it running in the background but access it instantly?” Now you can.

🐞 A bunch of fixes
Clipboard rendering, lists, timer visuals, odd layout bugs - cleaned up.

🚀 Performance boosts
Local audio processing is now way smoother, and overall responsiveness is noticeably better.

Not trying to overly promote anything here - just genuinely wanted to thank this sub for the push. The suggestions were practical, thoughtful, and helped shape the update more than you might realize.

Before I head back into the code cave -

Are there any productivity or utility apps you swear by on macOS that I should take inspiration from?

And for those who tried Gubb already, what’s one thing you’d want improved or added next?
