Ive not actually covered many Italian weapons in this series.

In fact I've only actually covered one the Breda Model 30. Which is probably the worst light machine gun of the second world war.

So let's look at the other end of the spectrum for Italy today with a gun that they liked quite well
The Beretta M38 or to give it , it's full name

The Moschetto Automatico Beretta Modello 1938

Interestingly enough it didn't see military service first and instead made it's debut to Italian police units in thier African colonies

It boasts a fire rate of 550 rounds a minute , firing the 9×19MM parabellum round. With an effective firing range up to 200 metres.

It was produced in pretty high numbers as well making it to the one million mark. Not as high as other sub machines guns like the Sten , or the Thompson. Or even the MP40 but still notable in my opinion.

Its no wonder really that the Italian army was impressed by the gun's performance and decided to adopt a version to be used by the army's elite formations and military police, but requested a modified variant which had no bayonet and a different muzzle brake. It was this variant that would be widely used by the royal Italian army in all of the theatres they were involved in.
It's this configuration that appears in game both as a TT gun and also in the hands of the premium German para squad.

It wasn't just the Italians that used the M38 however , it was also used German , Romanian and Arginine armies as well.

Now I can't discuss how this gun came to be without really mentioning it's great grandfather. That being the Villar Perosa , Italy's might machine gun of the first world war

Side tangent time

For whatever reason Italy never gets light machine guns right.
The Villar Perosa for those of you who don't know is a top fed , duel mag light machine gun and only holds 40 rounds. Weighs about 14 pounds. All in all. It's an awkward peice of machinery. It's not even a proper trigger it's one of those kind of plates you have to depress with your thumbs to fire it. You'd think they'd learn for when World war 2 rolls around but no. They bring out the Breda. And it's awful...so you'd think that modern Italian LMGs would finally have gotten better. Well the ones they use have and that's for one reason...they're not Italian. The three main LMGs they use now are Belgian and German. The most notable being the MG3 from Germany. These guys just never learned. You're probably thinking
" This is an odd side tangent "

Well it is and it isn't. Because while they clearly can't make a light machine gun to save thier life.

They can catch lightning in a bottle with the Beretta M38

Side tangent over

As I was saying. Can't talk about the 38 without talking about the Villar Perosa.

Originally designed by Beretta's chief engineer Tullio Marengoni in 1935, the Moschetto Automatico Beretta (Beretta Automatic Musket) 38, or MAB 38, was developed from the Beretta Modello 18 and 18/30, derived from the Villar Perosa light machine gun of World War I.

There's actually another grandson of the Villar Perosa in Enlisted that being the OVP which in my opinion is rarely seen on the battlefield ( reason being the sights are horrendous )

The more I go on the more I realise that Italy caught lightning in a bottle with this thing the M38. It was good. So good that even Germany were using it at some points.

And Italy used it great numbers

The Italian navy used it

The Italy air force used it

And more specialised units used it as well , that being motorcyclists and skiers.

It was well liked. And pretty damn efficient. I can't even find any faults with it.

You could complain about the Magazine size , a meager 20. But you could just get a 40 round magazine instead.

I suppose if I'm being technically it one of the few sub guns not modified for clandestine operations. Not Beretta M38 (S) from what I can see where as. Britain , America , Germany , Russia ect. All had some sort of surpressed submachine gun

But this is a nit pick it's a non complaint.

So for my final closing comments on this gun

Yeah. Italy did good.

Sorry It's been abit since my last post.
Been busy

Let me know what you want to see covered next , and as always keep your eyes open for interviews.

As always there's some pictures I've included for your viewing pleasure. Included some illustrations , I feel like Italians uniforms have been really scuffed in Enlisted. And it's a shame because they're incredibly unique. I think they were the only army that actually wore ties into combat. Feel free to fact check me on that.
Anyway!

Thanks for reading and take care
