I'm having issues with 2.8 and 2.8.1

I recently tried to come back ti gtnh and tried the newer versions. I started with 2.8.1 but I quickly discovered that the quest book didnt have and quests, then I tried 2.8 but my game kept freezing every 30 seconds or so. I'm playing on curseforge. Does anybody know how to fix this?
