Need Advice: Animal involved

Hi Everyone,

I am at a loss for what to do and hope this is the place where I can get some advice. I do want to say that I am making a plan for myself but am concerned about one of the animals we have.

I have been dating someone whose mental status has been deteriorating over the last two years due to some significant stressors. She has always had boundary issues with the animals which has always bothered me, but what has been happening is what I think abuse at this point, and need advice on how to proceed.

She essentially has it out for this cat because the cat likes me more than her. This has been a theme with all of our animals most likely due to the boundary thing I explained. Over time she has gotten jealous and resentful over it. We took a cat in that she helped catch a year ago. In the last week she started chasing the cat around saying things like the cat will love her and that she’s bonding. I have recordings of our audio and some visual of the cat crying whiles she’s holding it with me begging her to let go of the cat and leave it alone. This went on for about a half hour. The cat then spent the rest of the night sitting behind me at my computer desk. I keep trying to talk to her but now she’s asking me to move out because ‘she’s going to love the cat her way’.

Is this animal abuse? If I called the authorities (New York). Would this help get the cat to a safe place? I’m making plans to leave in the next two weeks.

Once again I am fine, I am really looking for how to proceed for the cat.
