First Homebrew: does the world sound interesting?

Need Advice: Worldbuilding

Hello all!!! I've been running my first ever homebrew for the past couple of months, and we just finished our 6th session, and it's going pretty well! The group just got past the general set-up stages and are beginning their adventure! That being said, I was curious whether or not the ideas I had for the future of the campaign sounded interesting to all of you!!! I won't include all details of course, but just the general ones

Plot Summary:
100 years after rescuing the Well of Souls (infinite underground magic source), the Sword Coast is booming with magical innovation, and has now opened up one of its first massive magic academies called the M.A.G.E. Academy. The party consists of 4 students at this academy who are starting their first year, when suddenly a special artifact that prevents the Well from being corrupted by dark magic is stolen, plunging the land into chaos! Settlements that relied on magic are beginning to crash and burn, ancient evils that were put to rest are not being brought back, and magic is becoming wild and unpredictable. Under the direction of the school's headmaster, the party will work to help the people of the coast survive this dark magic incursion, find the location of the stolen artifact, and maybe get in some trouble with a system that is out to get them.

Important NPCs:

- Alric: the headmaster of the school, and secretly the thief who stole the artifact. He was a former adventurer who was cursed by a dark cult, and this curse is now killing his son. He stole the artifact and traded it to the cult for the promise of a cure, but they have not yet repaid him.

- Benjamin: the shy, reserved son of the headmaster who is physically disabled due to his father's curse. He finds an old dark magic necklace that restores his physical abilities but amplifies his negative emotions, including deep rooted hatred for his father.

- Krogash: the leader of the Lord's Alliance, the Sword Coast's peace keeping force. He is vindictive, corrupt and has a deep hatred for all magic users. He's turned the Lord's Alliance into a regime, and hopes to eliminate or imprison all magic users. He wants to find the stolen artifact first and prevent it from being returned, as the dark magic can turn the people's attention negatively towards magic and maybe it will be decommissioned for good.

Key Plot Points:
- After the artifact is stolen, the party is enlisted by the headmaster to help him check on various contacts he has around the Sword Coast that are in danger due to the incursion. These start out as wanting to tie up loose ends and avoid suspicion towards him, but later turn into a quest to hunt down the cult that has not yet given him the cure for his son
- Benjamin finds the dark magic necklace and begins to tag along with the party, happy to finally be able to contribute. But when a party member is killed, he gives up the necklace in order to bring them back to life and keep them alive, but becomes increasingly sick and desperate to get it back

There are plenty of details I haven't included here (school events, classes, other NPCs, etc), but I think this is a relatively decent setup. The plot with the headmaster gives opportunity for sidequests and adventuring content, there are plenty of NPCs from the school the party can interact with and bond with, and the Headmaster and Krogash serve as antagonists with different levels of sympathy.
