I resigned without backup plan

Leaving a job

I am a teacher and about a week ago I handed in my resignation letter, without really thinking ahead. I have been physically mentally and emotionally exhausted in this job. The school I worked at overwhelmed with tasks without any help or assistance. It got to the point where I got admitted to the ER (dr told me I was fatigued dehydrated and suffered from malnutrition) two weeks in a row and had a meltdown for the first time in my life it’s was so scary that I actually thought I was going crazy. That’s when I decided for my own wellbeing, I can’t continue and resign.

Now that a little time has passed, I feel guilt and shame for quitting… most importantly I feel stupid for not planning an exit route. I still have bills to pay and I am currently searching for any job really that would hire me.

I don’t know if I did the right thing by quitting. Is it normal to lose your health and sanity working as a teacher or is it just me or was it the school I worked at? I honestly don’t know.
