Retired 10 yr+ canon shooter, re-entering the hobby with Sony, dad is mad

I am just making this to vent about the brand games my dad is playing with me. Feel free to remove or scroll on.

I really thought the brand debates ended a few years back, but apparently not according to my pops. He raised my brother and I on cameras and of course canon to be specific, but after not being in the hobby for about 5 years I’m now getting back into it and so far I’ve acquired an FX3 and an A7RV. Love these cameras, wanted to try Sony this time honestly just because what fun is having 3 R5’s pixel peeping all day? I liked the pricing and all that I saw so I bought what I bought. My dad is making this seem like he wants to disown me for not getting the same camera and lens him and my brother are using.

I didn’t buy it because I think it’s better, I didn’t buy it to change his mind, I just wanted to get back into the hobby and have a reason to go out with him on shoots and all but instead, all I get are smug comments about Sony sucks at this and Sony sucks at that and I really don’t care I just want to spend time taking pictures with him but with how he’s acting I’m not even going to go out with him anymore as the comments and wanna be debate ruins the experience.

It’s like he wants to prove a point, but realizes he’s being an ass about it so he does it nonchalantly.

Have you experienced this? They feel like I’ve betrayed them I feel like but it’s just a damn logo at this point, all of these cameras are great!

I bought the FX3 because it was the most compact video camera with the best potential, at the time. (Before c50)

I bought the A7RV because the camera fits my style of photography. He only shoots wildlife. I like street photography, portraits, and landscape photography.

I bought these cameras for these reasons but if my dad could help it, he’d have me return it all and get a copy of his camera bag.

TLDR; switched from canon to Sony, dad has shot canon all of his life and I guess feels betrayed, so he is doing his best to gaslight me into returning everything and getting a copy of his camera bag.
