Comandante C40 Wear and Tear: Any Fixes or Maintenance Tips for the Exterior?

The wear and tear on my Comandante grinder, which I've loved and used for a very long time, is starting to bother me. I wish I had bought one of the wooden versions instead. Do you have similar wear on your grinder? Is there a fix for this?
