Moisturizing starter microlocs

Hello! I just got loc’d early this week with twist starters (4c, medium-high density, fine hair) and am so excited for this journey. I hear a lot of mixed info about moisturizing, my hair is starting to feel pretty dry, I tried rose water + jojoba and lemongrass oil the day after got installed but the moisturization didn’t last long. Im wondering if mixing a small amount of leave in with water and spraying that a couple times a week would be ok? Whats the reasoning behind trying to limit moisturization to only water? Thanks!
