What types of workplace accommodations are common for people with extreme obesity?

Tips

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get a better understanding of what kinds of workplace accommodations are commonly provided for employees living with severe or extreme obesity. I know experiences vary a lot by employer, country, and job type, so I’m hoping to hear a wide range of perspectives.

I’m specifically curious about things like:

  • Adjusted chairs or seating options

  • Flexible schedules or remote work

  • Modified job duties

  • Larger uniforms or custom PPE

  • Parking/office accessibility

  • Break accommodations

  • Anything related to comfort, mobility, or health needs

If you’ve received accommodations yourself, helped provide them as a manager or HR person, or just have experience seeing how different workplaces approach this, I’d really appreciate your input.

I’m not looking for medical advice—just trying to understand what is typically reasonable or common so I can better prepare for a conversation with my employer.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience respectfully.
