past customers of the urban wood sale - what to expect?

i'm looking to visit the wood sale this weekend to get some raw material for an assortment of non-fine-furniture usage. i.e., i have no interest in thousand-dollar slabs or anything of the sort that i'm more likely to ruin, but i'd like to have some stock for projects that i don't mind undertaking as a learning experience.

those who have gone and purchased, does inventory remain quite varied throughout the day? i've seen a video or two of folks queing up before doors open. if i show up later, am i relegated to not much more than like... shims and furring strips?
