HOT TAKE: I don’t feel bad for people who get scammed by "This is Blythe"

Discussion

Posts that show a clear lack of resourcefulness/self-efficacy are rampant on the other sub. I’ll see stuff ranging from people trying to ID dolls that are obviously fake to requests for the most rudimentary customization help. There are so many helpful resources for beginners (e.g. Blythetopia, BlytheLife, the official Blythe website, etc.), and yet I see the same redundant questions being asked over and over. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help, but the questions I’m talking about could easily be answered with a teeny bit of reasoning. And before anyone tries to make the excuse that they’re just young, this is coming from an 18-year-old who first discovered Blythe at the beginning of the year. It took me several months to (knowingly) buy my first fakies to customize and gift to loved-ones. Another six months passed before I worked up the courage to buy my first real Blythe.

I hate the prevalent mindset that you should just impulsively buy something as soon as it piques your interest or becomes trendy. As a consumer, it is your responsibility to do your research and make sure you are purchasing from a trustworthy seller. It literally takes one basic online search to discover that "This Is Blythe" is not reputable/disdained by the community. People have been documenting the grifter origins of the site for almost a decade now (ever since it got stolen from Gina Garan). At this point, it’s just incompetence on your part if you fall for it.
