PSVR2 impressions after selling Quest 3

Disscussion

I never ever considered the PSVR2 just because I had filed it under "console accessory" in my mind. But I was also unhappy with the Quest 3 because of 3 reasons:

- Too heavy and uncomfortable

- Hated the washed out colors

- Too cumbersome to start playing PCVR . Having to run virtual desktop, managing the battery life...

For the longest time, I though wireless was the way to go but it turns out that for me, it's not. It mades me yearn for an Index experience again but with better visuals. Just putting it on my head and have everything start running...a frictionless, no hassle UX. So I decided at first to order a bigscreen beyond 2....but the huge wait and conflicting reports just got me to cancel it and wait it out. As I realized that the amount of viable alternative for PCVR were really slim, I started wondering about the PSVR2.

After finding all the info I could about it, and unfortunately there is not much. I decided to buy a PSVR2 as a stop gap just because the reports were actually very encouraging, eye tracking had been unlocked for PC users and that you could find a PSVR2 for less than 250e. It made it a worthy punt.

I was prepared for the tiny sweet spot which is defintely the case and bought in anticipation the global cluster. In the sweet spot, the image is quite clear. I was a expecting a downgrade coming from the Quest 3 but it barely registered. If there is a difference, it's barely noticeable. The colors on the other hand, that's a welcome improvement and makes up for the "loss" in resolution or sweet spot. So Im quite pleasantly surprised on the image quality as I expected to be let down. I did wish the sweet spot was bigger but it's no isssue at the end of it all.

Comfort out of the box is okay. The cluster mods work well and helps keeping the sweetspot. The weight is probably as high a headset can have before becoming too heavy. Im very sensitive to this. I have no idea how Pimax users can deal with such humongous headsets even with the great visuals

So all in all, a great first impression of the PSVR2 which I believe at that 250e price has a place in anyone's VR collection even as a fall back option even when newer and better PCVR option will become available. The image quality is good enough.
