Uniforms Make Society Better

I’m not just taking about schools, I’m talking about in general, a society as a whole.

First, let’s talk schools. Half of the reasons kids get bullied is because they can’t afford brand name clothes, or they aren’t “cool”. Wearing school uniforms eliminates that problem. Second, it’s easier to get ready for school, you just pop on a uniform and go. Third, you’re saving money for parents, because they don’t have to keep up with trends. I’m not just talking about students, teachers should have to wear suits. Men have a dress jacket, tie, slacks, and maybe a vest. Women should wear power suits or dress jackets with a skirt. At minimum, a blouse and dress skirt/pants with a vest. This teaches kids at a young age how important it is to take pride in your appearance. I went to pick my son up from school the other day, a teacher had on a crop top, low rise jeans, and a hat on, with her pony tail coming out of the hole in the back. A male teacher had on a black band t-shirt, holes in his jeans, and converse sneakers.

Now, let’s talk adulthood. I think society as a whole need work uniforms. Think back to a 1950s nurse. What do you imagine? You thought of a woman in a white outfit and hat with a Red Cross on it? Right? Think of a modern nurse. I went to the ER a few months ago and the nurses were wearing Rick and Morty scrubs, tattoos down their arms, etc… another nurse had “I hate mondays” with Garfield printed on their scrubs, messy hair. I didn’t feel comfortable being treated by these folks. I’m not saying we have to bring back the 1950s nursing outfits, but maybe solid black or navy blue scrubs only, and cover your tattoos with long sleeve dry fit shirts under your scrub top. Or maybe a matching scrub jacket. Doctors should wear matching oxford cut dress shirts, same color slacks, a belt and dress shoes with a white lab coat.

This goes for all jobs. I think if you work at a law firm, it should be uniformed suits (matching for men) and uniform power suits or dress jackets with a skirt. If you work at Burger King, they should make them wear button up shirts with khakis and a belt.

When did our society become so messy and “I don’t care” appearance? Mechanics should wear button up shirts and slacks with coveralls while working on cars and then take them off when they go to the front desk, so they have a nice uniform under the coveralls.

It’s fine to dress however you want in your spare time, but have some self respect at work. This isn’t your house, or your lounge time. I’m not your spouse or family member. I don’t want to see Debra the nurse in her hello kitty scrubs, messy bun, nose accessories and tatted sleeves when I’m in crisis at the hospital. Dress like that at home.

Why can’t restaurants have people in button up shirts, dress pants, maybe even dress vests. Bring back the bow tie for diners. I think if people had a sense of pride in their appearance more in the U.S., then our society would take pride in other things and it would spill over. Maybe more pride in our neighborhoods, possessions, schools, and so on. But if we always give off a “IDGAF” attitude, then kids think that’s okay at a young age.

Thoughts?
