Shandalar (any version) stopped working after a Windows 11 update yesterday — did this happen to anyone else?
I’ve been playing Magic: The Gathering – Shandalar on my Windows 11 PC for a long time without any issues, but after a Windows update yesterday the game suddenly stopped working completely.
I tried every version I have (original, community patch, modded builds), and none of them launch anymore. The process appears for a second in Task Manager and then closes instantly. DxWnd also fails with “no injection completion signal,” even though everything worked perfectly the night before the update.
I moved the game out of Program Files, tried compatibility modes, admin mode, different DxWnd renderers, etc. — nothing brings it back. It looks like the latest Windows 11 update may have broken DirectDraw or something related to fullscreen initialization.
Did this happen to anyone else?
If so, have you found any workaround? DxWnd tweaks? Settings? Or is the only reliable solution now a Windows XP VM?
Any shared experiences or fixes would be super appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
