CNC lapsed. Slight pay bump this year only, now back to previous. Need to re-up CNC.
I am a teacher on 10 month contract. I was in CNC last year at $37,500. They turned it over to private collection, so looking up how to reinstate. In the meantime, I need to figure out before I talk to the IRS again:
I had a one-time-only bonus contract over the summer this year that bumped my overall income this year only to $44k or so. I have not filed that return yet, and won't until April of 2026.
I was told by IRS agent when I set up the CNC last time that I was right near the limit at $37500 of what would qualify for CNC. There's no excess income even with the one time bump and it was already spent just covering my rent for the summer and catching up on bills, but now I'm back to the previous $37.5k income which qualified then for CNC.
How do I frame this to them so that I qualify to reinstate the CNC? I'm concerned that the one-time bonus (already spent on bills) will disqualify me.
