How to start?

Question

Hi, I'm sure this sub gets posts like this one almost daily haha but I really need advice because I don't know any vegans or vegetarians. Please be kind.

So first of all I wanna clarify that I'm young, a student (don't have a job or anything) and still live with my parents, so you can guess I don't usually get to choose what to buy or not. I do take the initiative to go shopping for myself when I get some money, so I can grab as much food of my liking as possible (usually veggies of any kind as my family doesn't eat nearly enough and forgets to buy when they go shopping😮‍💨). Recently I even dared to buy seitan which I've heard is a good replacement for meat.

Anyway, I'll get to the point. So as I mentioned, I cannot really control what my family buys. That includes lots of meat (pork, beef, fish, chicken...you name it) and also dairy and eggs. They have no idea I wanna go vegan, and if they did, rest assured they would NOT be supportive. Not one bit. Not only because vegan products here where I live can be quite pricey, but also because they're like, super close minded and it took me quite a while to convince them to let me cook my own food, so imagine what me refusing meat would be like. Total disaster. So I have this inner conflict, in which I really wanna stop eating animal products, but also don't wanna waste what my parents buy. What would you do in my situation? And sorry if I sound dumb. Any advice is welcomed with open arms
