First Time Attending Card Show (and also being around other collectors)
Sorry if this is rambly, just trying to be as clear as possible since I've never really interacted with the collecting community before outside of shops.
So I'm going to a card show in my town tomorrow for the first time ever, and I was wondering what are some good/bad signs I need to look out for? I plan on taking 2 binders that have sets I want to add to and another binder for cards that I just don't care to keep anymore/have dupes of that I wanna trade away.
I'm also thinking of taking some bulk cards (nothing that should mess with the tables profit or traffic, probably just a small mixed stack of c/uc's) to hand out to younger kids that might be there cause I know some parents either have their kids save up for a show themselves from an allowance or give them a spending budget.
Also, how does trading work with tables? Is it like the cards have to be of equal value to one another; rare for rare, common for common? Or based off the monetary value of the card; $2 card for $2 card, $50+ card for $50+? The cards I have aren't like super crazy rare or expensive, I think my most expensive one is like $50 rn and even then that's depending on who's selling it on eBay, but i still don't want to get jiffed in a trade, you know?
And it isn't just with the tables is it? I could also trade with other attendees if they wanted, or is that like poor etiquette? I know I said earlier I was taking a small stack of cards to divvy out to any kids there, but that's not exactly trading so I thought it'd be okay.
Also, because I plan on bringing 3 binders and on buying not just singles or packs, would it be okay to use a backpack to carry my stuff in or do I kinda just have to suffer with carrying everything in my arms? Also related, should I tag my binders with something only I would know would be there? I have a watermark for artwork that I post and I'd be able to show proof of that if anything happens like a binder getting stolen. I'm just trying to be safe about my stuff since one of the binders is for a set that I've only bought packs from Walmart/dollar general for, and have probably spent over $200 doing so at least since March. I really don't want to lose all that time and effort in a case of not being able to prove that the binder belongs to me.
