Enshrouded Dedicated Server - Unraid Guide
Hi All,
Thought I would braindump here on how I got the Enshrouded Dedicated Server running on my Unraid server, I had teething issues with this so just in case anyone else is struggling or fancies trying to set one up, here you go!
Disclaimer - This rough guide assumes you are somewhat technically minded and familiar with Unraid and how to enable docker in it!
(You can probably use sections of this on any other systems that can hold a docker container but never tested outside of Unraid)
-- Setup --
First things first you will need to port forward UDP-15637 on your internet router to point to your server that will be running the docker container, if you don't know how to do that, don't continue until you do as it won't work without it.
- Within Unraid, go to apps and search for 'Enshrouded' by 'nodiaque'
- Press Install, this should take you to a configuration page
- You don't HAVE to configure anything here, but do so if you wish, once finished, press 'Apply'
- This will now pull the image and spin up the container.
- Once the container is started, click on it and open the Console
- Run 'cd /serverdata/serverfiles/' and then 'ls'
- You should see a load of 'enshrouded_server' files among other things, if so, good!
- Now you will need to edit the 'enshrouded_server.json' file, as this is where the server config is.
- By default, there usually isn't a text editor baked into docker containers, but you can install one, my preference is vim, so you can install this by running 'apt-get update' and then 'apt-get install vim' and confirming with 'y'
- Now you can edit the json file by doing the following
- vim enshrouded_server.json
- Press i to enter insert mode
- Navigate using arrow keys and treat it like a normal text editor
- You probably want to edit these fields:
- name (Server name)
- slotCount (Number of player slots on the server)
- password (Edit this in each user group to something unique)
- When you are finished editing type ':wq' and press enter (this Writes & Quits the file)
- This should take you back to the command line of the container
- Now go back to Unraid and restart the container
- Let the container sit for about 10 minutes as it needs to register the server back to the main Enshouded servers, once it has done that, you should be able to find your server in the server browser, you can then connect with one of the 3 passwords you set earlier as an Admin, Friend or Guest.
-- Updating the server after a patch --
This is the bit that caused me grief as I couldn't find a solid guide anywhere and had to piece together 3 or 4 different guides!
You will know when this needs to be done as when you go to connect to your server it will say 'Version Mismatch'
(Probably a good idea to copy the files within '/serverdata/serverfiles/savegame' inside the container before doing this, as that is where it stores the server save files)
-
From Unraid, open the console of the container
-
Run the following commands in order
- su steam (switches the user profile to use the steam profile on the container)
- cd /serverdata/steamcmd/ (changes working directory to be SteamCMD's folder)
- ./steamcmd.sh (Boots up SteamCMD)
- force_install_dir "/serverdata/serverfiles/" (Changes the default install directory to where the container stores the server files)
- login anonymous (Logs into the Steam servers as an anonymous user)
- app_update 2278520 validate (SteamCMD checks in to see if there is a pending update and pulls it)
- exit (Takes you back to the command line of the container)
-
Now restart the container from Unraid
-
If you click the container and click 'View Logs' you should be able to see the server booting and install the patch, once complete, your server should be accessible again.
If this helps 1 other person then I have done my job!
See you in the Shroud!
