Suppressing a 16” Guardsman?
First time AR-15 purchase and I’ve been eyeing PSA’s Guardsman line. This would be a SHTF rifle and a possible home defense option, though I have a PCC and Shotgun that I feel pretty secure at home with.
The only thing that gives me pause is the pinned gas block on the Guardsman. The only knowledge I have of tuning AR’s is that which I’ve gleaned from the internet, and as I understand, an adjustable gas block may be desirable if one plans to suppress their rifle, which I would like to be able to do in the future.
So with the pinned gas block which is non-adjustable, will I have issues with trying different bullet weights or suppressing my rifle? Should I go for one of their lower tier models that just has the low profile gas block with staked key?
Any guidance on this question and first time AR-15 purchases is appreciated. I have some experience with long guns with my 9mm SW FPC, and while I know the platforms are different, I feel confident that I’ll be able to pick up some the basics fairly quickly and I don’t want such a basic rifle that I’ll have to replace all of the internals within a few months. For this purpose, the PSA Guardsman lower stood out, and the specs on the upper are great (I understand that the pinned gas block is a more durable option, but maybe not worth it if it decreases the versatility of the rifle which, let’s face it, will likely see far more action at the range over its life span than anywhere else.
