Pushing us to limits!!!
So I am working as a Software developer in one of the biggest IT consulting company, it is US based giant. As any other consulting we are required to work for client on their premises. And here are the things which have been normalised in every project they have have signed.
- Upper management decides project project deadlines even before discussing or hiring developers.
- Working on weekends un-officially without any compensation and working over time on weekdays (they purposely schedule calls in evening)
- If asked for long leave for vacation then they quietly start off-boarding process and then next thing you are on bench.
- Random and last moment emails that inform teams to be available over weekends for entire next two months and when we inform of our plans we are asked to cancel them.
- Once project assignment changes your manager changes, and while appraisal rating starts, new managers bluntly say that you are new to this project so cannot give good rating, so basically all the work you did for entire year is just Nill since your manager has changed now.
- Testers are forced into buying SIM cards on their aadhar card to test applications and not just one but multiples and they are asked to arrange mobile devices as well to test the application.
- TL openly threat employees of negative reviews if you refuse to work on weekends.
- Delivery managers shout at employees at client office if unrealistic deadlines are skipped.
- And worst of all, most of the TL and managers here chew tobacco/Gutka while working in office.
Some employees have even taken screenshots, audio recordings of such things but are scared to publish as it might impact our career negatively. This is the truth of service industry in India. I am very close to breaking me decorum and professionalism because they are literally pushed out limits. I have only taken 3 vacation leaves in entire year, because every project of theirs is in deep shit, and because of this mismanagement and over commitments we are facing such problems, and when someone goes against them they are put on bench and managers force them to resign after after 1 month.
Too long; didn’t read (TL;DR)
Forcing employees to work out of working hours and weekends, if refused threats of negative reviews and gutka eating unprofessional managers.
