In one of Curren Chan’s lobby voice lines, she says that her brother **“loved”** songs related to spring, so her repertoire is made up of spring-themed songs too. Even in Japanese, she uses the past tense, which implies that her brother might have already passed away.

In fact, she really had a brother that passed away during his racing career in real life. His name was ***Spring Song (スプリングソング)***.

.

Spring Song was a sprinter, and in most of the time his jockey was *Kenichi Ikezoe (池添 謙一)*, just like Curren Chan.

He was born in February 27, 2005, two years older than Curren Chan. Though his mother was the same as Curren Chan, his father was ***Sakura Bakushin O (サクラバクシンオー)***, yes, THE Sakura Bakushin O.

.

Spring Song’s biggest win was the G3 Keihan Cup in 2010, which was his second victory after a one-and-a-half-year layoff due to desmitis.

At the time he won the race, Curren Chan was on a long break. She came back in early 2011 and slowly secured her place in the sprinter division. Her first graded-race win came on April 9 in the G2 Hanshin Himba Stakes, just two week after her brother was beaten in the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen, finishing only 7th.

Perhaps inspired by his sister’s success, Spring Song finished second in his next open-class race, just a neck behind the winner, ***Pas de Trois (パドトロワ)***. This made many people start to hope that he would soon meet his sister at the top of the sprint division, in the G1 Sprinters Stakes.

.

But then, tragedy struck all too abruptly.

.

On May 3, 2011, Spring Song suddenly suffered from colic. Although he received emergency treatment, he still passed away on May 8, at only six years old.

.

After that tragedy, it was as if Curren Chan had switched into full serious mode. She started winning graded races one by one, and finally, on October 2, she defeated her brother’s old rivals, including ***Pas de Trois***, and other top-tier foreign sprinters such as ***Rocket Man***, Singapore's champion sprinter, to win the G1 Sprinters Stakes.

As time went by, she went on to win the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen and eventually retired to become a broodmare. She was supposed to enjoy her life in retirement while people’s memories of her brother slowly faded away. But one day, she suddenly “reincarnated” as a character in a mobile game, while her real self was still happily living out her life as a cute 14-year-old horse.

.

In that game, she is a middle school student. Years ago, someone helped her and believed in her dream, and she never forgot him. When she enters Tracen Academy, she finds him again as her new trainer, her “Big Bro.” She loves to tease him, and he supports her and understands her better than anyone else, just like a real brother would. With this new identity, she can talk to her beloved "big bro" whenever she want.

.

Maybe we can see it as a passed down memory?

.

This thought was originally considered with a male player in mind, but even for female players, Curren Chan can call the player “Big Sis” while thinking of Spring Song, since he might become a cute Umamusume when he enters the game.
