Is the doctor correct about this?
Hi,
My bilirubin levels have been raised since January, and they’ve previously always been right in the middle of ‘normal’ - going back over my 35 years of blood tests! My immediate family also don’t have bilirubin issues.
My ferritin has suddenly gone from around 50 to 150 during this time too, peaking in July at 233.
My GP wrote to hematology for advice as he thought there could be something going on, and didn’t believe it could be Gilbert’s as I’ve never had raised bilirubin, or other symptoms like jaundice etc previously. I’m currently being investigated for Long Covid, so he’s been doing lots of blood tests.
The only other thing previously is a gallbladder attack without any gallstones 3 years ago, nobody had any clue why that happened. It took a while to settle down, and apart from the occasional pain it’s fine.
The haematology dept have replied to him saying ‘no action, bilirubin raised due to genetic reasons’.
I just wondered if the hematology dept are correct, and it is Gilbert’s? Does it just appear randomly well into adulthood with no signs or symptoms like this, and no relatives with it? 😵💫
