Hey folks, I’m reading 11/22/63 and enjoying it overall, but I’m running into a few issues and wanted to know if other non-US readers felt the same.

1. The endless street/lane/location descriptions
King keeps describing Jake moving through all these specific American streets, highways, neighborhoods, etc. I’ve never been to the US, so honestly it’s hard to picture any of it. Half the time it just feels like “he turned left here, then right here…” and I don’t know if I’m supposed to visualize it or just skim it.

2. The whole “1960s atmosphere”
People say the magic of the book is how vividly King brings the 60s to life, but since I’m not American, it just feels like generic old-school America to me. Am I missing some nostalgia that US readers automatically have?

3. Reading King as a non-American
A lot of King’s stuff feels very culturally American — diners, small towns, school systems, local slang, all that. If you didn’t grow up there, how do you approach these books without getting lost in the details?

Basically what I’m asking is:
– What parts are actually important to the novel?
– What sections can be skimmed without losing the emotional core?
– How do you read King when you don’t share the cultural background he assumes?

Would love to hear how other international readers handled this.
