PSA: Give yourself some extra time at the airport.
We flew out today on a direct flight to Phoenix. Normally, I'd say we arrive an hour and a half to two hours before our departure (if checking a bag) and maybe an hour beforehand if not checking anything. Today we gave ourselves extra time because of the fact that it's the holidays and obviously the terminal is new.
I cannot stress this enough - whatever time you are used arriving, give yourself AT LEAST 30 to 45 minutes longer. I am used to parking in economy and taking the hike over to the old terminal. When I arrived at the shuttle station, the ETA for the next bus was 20 minutes. That was 20 minutes of just waiting with others, not including the bus coming, people unloading, and then us getting on. Once we were on, it was another 10 minutes to get to the terminal. (Also, the rear door on our bus was broken, so everyone had to funnel out of the front).
I was under the impression that shuttles would be more frequent, but some folks reported waiting there for a half hour, and that some shuttles were ONLY letting people off and not letting new passengers on.
TSA was fine - not fast or slow, but for some reason they only had one initial TSA officer screening IDs for standard entry.
All in all, the new terminal is sweet, and I'm sure there are going to be growing pains, but please GIVE YOURSELF TIME.
That is all.
