DonJoy FullStop (soft/sleeve brace) vs DonJoy FULLFORCE (rigid frame)

DonJoy FullStop (soft/sleeve brace) vs DonJoy FULLFORCE (rigid frame)

Hey everyone,

I see this question pop up constantly: “Should I get the DonJoy FullStop or spend double/triple on the FullForce (or any rigid DonJoy brace)?”

Here’s my breakdown in case it helps anyone deciding.

  1. Price – why are rigid braces so insanely expensive? You’re basically paying for aircraft-grade aluminum/carbon frame + DonJoy’s patented FourcePoint hinge technology. Soft braces like the FullStop are essentially high-end neoprene sleeves with some straps and the same FourcePoint hinge sewn in. Rigid ones have a full exoskeleton that literally cannot bend past 0-5°.
  2. Know your injury & your sport
    • Prevention or light support (soccer, running, gym)? FullStop has been more than enough for many and tons of pro soccer players. It’s basically a beefy sleeve with anti-migration straps and the FourcePoint hinge that dampens hyperextension.
    • Recovery from ACL/MCL/meniscus OR high-risk sports (skiing, wakeboarding, motocross, downhill MTB)?
    • When you’re catching big air or getting twisted in bindings, zero flex is peace of mind. The FullForce (and Defiance, Armor, etc.) physically will not let your knee go into the “danger zone.”
  3. Same magic hinge, different delivery Both the FullStop and FullForce use DonJoy’s FourcePoint hinge – there’s a ton of clinical research showing it reduces ACL strain by shifting force away in the last 20-30° of extension. So yes, even the “soft” FullStop gives you that patented tech… it’s just wrapped in fabric.
  4. Day-to-day differences
    • FullStop: slides on like a thick sleeve in 5 seconds, you forget it’s there, can wear under jeans, washes easy.
    • FullForce: takes 1-2 minutes to strap on perfectly, feels like robot legs, bulky under pants, but when you crash you thank every strap.

My personal rule now:

  • Football / daily life / moderate prevention → FullStop (or Reaction/Web brace if you want even lighter)
  • Skiing, wake, anything where a bad fall can re-rupture → rigid custom or off-the-shelf FullForce/Armor

Curious what everyone else is using? Did the price of rigid braces shock you the first time? And for those who went soft brace only – any regrets?
