Awful Opinions To Tell Your Players This Character Is OK To Kill
Sometimes, my players worry that they're doing the wrong thing by shooting my NPCs. I find that giving terrible NPCs certain lines of dialogue really help smooth that tension over. For example, if your awful douchebag NPC says, "The Statue of Liberty is the only woman I respect," your players will feel a lot less conflicted about shooting that character in the face.
So, I wanted to list off 10 such statements now, for other GMs to drop in as they will to their truly awful, terrible, no-good NPCs. Think of these as waving a red flag at the players: it just lets them know that violence is an option, if they want to:
- "Being poor is a choice!"
- "The only good dog is a dead dog."
- "Service employees don't count as people; you don't have to be nice to them."
- "Tipping is for suckers."
- "The word 'charity' should only ever be uttered if it's a stripper's stage name."
- "Nothing tastes as good as money smells."
- "I have no idea what the Emancipation Proclamation is because I don't listen to rap."
- "Guns should have more rights than people do, because all guns are useful, whereas most people are fucking useless."
- "Teachers and nurses shouldn't be paid, they should go get real jobs like the rest of us."
- "'Neurodivergent' is just a word made up so retards feel better about themselves."
(Make sure if you do use any of these that you're not crossing any lines for your players; modify as necessary)
