parking tips for christmas together with amy grant, michael w. smith, & cece winans at the theater at mgm national harbor (national harbor md 11/30)
hey everyone, figured i'd share some parking advice for the christmas together show on 11/30 since getting in and out of the mgm can honestly be a massive headache, especially for a big saturday night show starting at 7:30 pm. the biggest issue isn't finding a spot, it's the insane traffic jam getting in and especially out of the lot after the concert. you'll see heavy congestion along oxon hill road and the beltway exit.
the way to totally skip that headache is with an app called Prked. you can rent someone's private driveway or garage right next to the theater at mgm national harbor. it's way cheaper than other official garages around the area and the best part is you totally skip the insane line of 5,000 cars trying to exit the main lot after the show. it’s a super short walk and saves a lot of stress.
if you don't go that route, mgm does have a huge free self-parking garage with 5,000 spots, which is first-come, first-served for all guests. the entrances are on mgm national ave and monument ave. just be aware that the height limit is 6'10", and if you have an oversized vehicle, you have to use lot b adjacent to the hotel entrance.
valet parking is another option and is actually the closest to the theater entrance, but it’s $35 for non-rewards members if you are not a hotel guest.
other parking options exist down at the national harbor waterfront, like the fleet, mariner, or st. george garages, or the plateau/spirit park lots. however, these are not free like the mgm garage, and rates start at $5 but can go up to $25 depending on how long you stay, which is likely for the concert time. there is metered on-street parking but it's limited to two hours max, so you can't use it for the whole show.
my main advice is to get there way earlier than you think you need to. traffic is heavy in that area from 7 p.m. onwards, and if you're stuck in the line of cars, you'll be stressed and rushing to the box office which closes three hours before showtime. you can also look into pre-purchasing a guaranteed spot on apps like spothero or seatgeek. for alternatives, you can consider the oxon hill park & ride lot, which has a bus shuttle to the casino for $10, or using a rideshare service, which has designated pick-up/drop-off on hotel drive, but you'll still battle the inbound traffic.
hope this helps and you have a great time at the show.
