Should I convert my credit card debt into a loan?
I’m with CIBC and my credit card has been maxed out (and over) for over a year with my interest being around 25%. I wasnt able to pay it for a while due to being unemployed and kicked out of my parents house and my credit score has dropped to the mid 500s. I got a job recently that’ll help with paying the debt off but it’s still tight. My bank called me today with the option of converting my credit card debt into a personal loan with the hopes of getting a lower interest rate. Is this a good idea? Are there any drawbacks to doing this? (Like would getting a new place to rent be harder with this loan on my record? would my credit score increase faster? Would I be able to use my credit card again?) just any information would help, I don’t want to end up screwing myself over.
