Adventure / dual-sport, mostly off-road, occasional highway, 2 up
Hi everyone, Looking for some advice/recommendations. I’ve been riding on road bikes for a decade but my off road experience is limited. I’m starting to consider a heavier dirt/dualsport bike, something in the 1000cc dirt bike range that can handle both rough trails and occasional highway cruising. Here’s what I’m looking for: Mostly off road, maybe 70–80%, with the rest being highway / paved roads. I want to be able to take a passenger sometimes for short trips. I’m 185cm (6’1”) and about 95kg. Comfort at 100–120 km/h on the highway is a must. Prefer something reliable and not overly complicated for maintenance, I wouldn't want to spend more time riding than fixing. I’ve been looking at bikes like the KTM 990 Adventure, Yamaha Ténéré 1000cc-ish options and also a few Suzuki V-Stroms that can take some dirt. I’m open to Japanese or European options too. Also, I know Alibaba has some aftermarket accessories and protection gear that could be interesting for long trails but I’m not trying to buy cheap bikes from there, just a casual reference. I think that's it. Has anyone ridden a 1000cc dirt bike for off-road mixed with some highway and two-up riding?Any bikes I should absolutely check out or avoid?
