Hi, i really need to talk abt something here. It is about my language disorder
Hi, i would first off like to mention that i apologise if i am using the wrong subreddit. But this is the only subreddit that i could think of posting here, since Idk where to post
Ok so, i wanted to talk abt something that i had for years since childhood and i still have it to this day.
I have aphasia, which is a language disorder. It affects on how i communicate, write and understand others. It also makes my grammar look like trash, which i hate.
This is a disorder that is rarely talked about and i always feel like that i am the only one who has this. Not to mention that i have witnessed a lot of things ( for example, people talking crap about their friends. People technically making fun of me. And when i point it out, people and even teachers used the excuse of my language problem which makes me say nothing about what happens )
I have been diagnosed on this problem when i turned 9. Teachers, my parents and specialists didn’t even knew what was going on with me. Until my parents gaved me a psychologist and they confirmed me on having aphasia.
( which they called it dysphasia or trouble language)
And it was apparently what made me nonverbal. I used to be nonverbal and gotten my first word when i was 3 or 4 idk. But when i started to speak, i kept saying gibberish words. Calling water ‘’ mya ‘’ or food ‘’ humyoo ‘’
Or calling expired food ‘’ cough smells ‘’
I even kept speaking gibberish as if i made up a new language and m y parents started to become concern of it.
Sooo yeah, they think thats why i could have been nonverbal since then because i couldn’t get the right words before, nor was i able to express how i felt.
But here’s the thing that gotten me confused.
When i tried searching about my problems on social media ( which i finally did ) i noticed that most people with that disorder are mostly old people. And it was mentioned that people with that same disorder are caused by strokes or brain damage. Which is something that i never had.
Like yes, i used to be a clumsy kid. But i had no history of me having a stories or a brain damage.
The only thing that i could think it has caused was how i never spoke. But when i searched about it, it mentioned that aphasia isn’t caused by being nonverbal. Which is now making me confused bc why did they diagnosed me this for years?
It is true that the signs are VERY accurate. Like, being unable to get the right words to express myself, words that i say that does not make sense for others. All of that.
But there is no head trauma that could have caused this problem.
Now i am genuinely confused because i have it, but without my brain being damaged, without any inflammations, or anything that i tried searching for
I tried searching more about it. I even asked if it is possible to have it without any cause, and it gaved me nothing.
Now Idk what it exactly going on. I have asked my mom if i had any history of brain damage, trauma or a stroke and she said no.
Idk why i have it if none of this happened.
And now i am here talking about it and going insane on why i have it in the first place?
Can it happen to have aphasia without any brain damage? More like being born with that problem??
Is it possible?
Edit: i talked to my mother about this again, and she mentioned that i had no historical trauma that could have caused me to have it. And that i just somehow developped that problem. I had no history of epilespy, dememtia, inflammation, tumor, stroke or even a brain damage. There is nothing that caused this and idk how i have it.
