My friend is going through absolute hell and won’t ask for help. How can I step in without overstepping?

Hey everyone, I’m hoping for some advice on how to support someone I care deeply about who’s been hit with one thing after another, and I’m honestly at a loss on how to help without crossing boundaries.

Over the last week: • Her car broke down and is now completely totaled. • Two days later, her husband hit a deer with their other car and it is also totaled. • Last night, the camper they live in flooded. • She hasn’t slept, is completely overwhelmed, and is now throwing up blood but refuses to go to the doctor or go home because she says she needs the money and can’t miss work.

She’s one of the hardest working people I know and would never ask for help. She genuinely carries her family on her shoulders, and I don’t think they’d accept charity if it was offered directly. She doesn’t have a strong support system, and she’s close to my heart. I can’t just sit here and watch this happen.

I’m worried not only about their financial situation but her health and safety at this point. She won’t take a break, won’t seek medical care, and is completely exhausted physically and mentally. How can I step in meaningfully without making her feel pitied or like a burden?

If anyone has experience with supporting someone fiercely independent during a crisis, I’d love your advice. She deserves a lifeline right now.

Thank you in advance.
