Embark, why does God Himself want us dead?

I've been doing a ton of matches during Electromagnetic Storms for the past few weeks for my trials, and at this point I am convinced that lightning is programed to target players and ignore ARC.

I have lost count of how many times a lightning strike has appeared either directly in my path or right on top of me while I am attempting to loot something.

At the same time I have seen lightning hit ARC exactly twice. In both instances, a Wasp was chasing me, a lightning strike appeared on top of me, I ran, and the Wasp flew into the lightning.

Why is it that lightning seems to ignore flying metal lightning rods, but is perpetually attracted to random humans running around?
