Looking for a new vacuum cleaner!

My wife and I currently live in a small 2 bedroom apartment(approx. 650sqft). The bissell I have no longer works well. We would like to upgrade into something that will serve us in our apartment as well as our future home. The budget is about $600 +/- $100. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
