Torso S4 or Ableton Push 3 and Max4Live
I've been eyeing the S4 for quite a few months now, have seen so many little bugs squashed by Torso, and feel fairly confident in the hardware.
I am looking for a super low barrier sampler, looper type thing, and the S4 pretty much fits that description perfectly.
I do also use Ableton though, which the practical part of my brain keeps telling me is enough. Some Max4Live devices are nuts these days, and could arguably, very easily fulfil any role that the S4 could, and probably way more.
The 'f*ck it, just buy it' part of my brain reminds me how nice it is to have a dedicated interface, with a concrete set of effects and processes.
The hardware will actually probably get used more, just because it is there. Whereas VSTs are sort of just chilling in the ether, ready to be used, but you gotta get pumped to go play on the computer.
Does anybody have experience with both?
Is the S4 interface really that immersive?
Does it call you to play?
Is it a meditative, low barrier experience (besides the possible odd bug)?
Or should I just keep it practical/sensible and try to absorb myself in Ableton - maybe getting a Push for the tactile, hand-on experience of Live?
