Odd massage experience in HCM
Someone familiar with the local culture and language enlighten me please?
Context: 31/M, straight, Asian. Visited a clean, legit + well rated massage spa somewhere in buzzing city of HCM earlier.
Wanted "deep tissue massage" so picked one for 90mins and was told by the reception staff that "only male therapist is available. Is that okay?"
Have had my fair share of massages by both genders in Bali and Bangkok and my shoulders and legs hurt and will appreciate someone strong. So I thought why not?
Was told to put on this disposable type underwear and was subsequently shuffled to a floor with separate beds and drawn curtain sheets. Masseuse was great - firm and powerful presses on the deep knots of my neck and shoulders. Exactly what I needed.
Midway through the massage, was told to flip over and lay on my back. Then came the application of massage oil as the therapist went through my thigh muscles. The disposable underwear was pulled higher (am guessing for greater access? while still keeping the boundaries of my man parts) and the legs massage proceeded. As the massage proceeded, it seemed that the boundaries to my groin were infringed slightly with very occasional brush/contact felt on the sides of my manhood. However seeing that we were both of the same gender and that no blatant misconduct was experienced, i didn't think too much about it and let my therapist carry on. After he was done, the disposable underwear was repositioned back into the original comfortable position and then covered me properly with the blankets. Midway through working on my inner thigh and calves, we made small talks - about traveling, vacation to Vietnam (the usual) and talking about returning home soon over the weekends. He suggested I come back for a massage again tomorrow.
On the final leg of this massage experience, my massage therapist went out to grab a small bucket of warm water together with a warm wet towel. He returned and needed to pull up the blanket to expose my legs in order to start wiping off the massage oil.. this time he made a remark "can I?" before proceeding with to expose my legs for the wipe down.
Would say everything is still seemingly normal up until this point, hopefully?
However, the next part was really puzzling. While wiping down my legs and the groin area, he suddenly offered an uncalled comment. "I am not a boy. I am tomboy".
Had the entire massage experience ended without the above statement, I would have thought of it as any other usual massage session. But the comment is giving me lingering thought about the whole process..
Was hoping for some enlightenment about what transpired, as there may have been language/translational errors to the statement.
By tomboy do they mean girl preferencing masculinity? Or do ppl refer to LGBTIQ+ here in Vietnam?
Do share any thoughts or if anyone else had similar bizarre experiences.
