Voice recorder for voice lessons / church recording

Looking into buying a voice recorder like the Zoom or Tascam devices to record my own voice lessons and performances in a church setting. I’ve heard hit or miss about the Zoom H1 Essential, wonder if anyone has any suggestions and reasons why?
