People only "care" about you if it benefits them

Like.. Using an example? I've been called dumb, useless and whatnot throughout my life but I've noticed the same people who told me these things have tried using me for their advantages.

"Friends" who called me useless tried inducing me into doing things for them by manipulating me with compliments, specially if it was doing something I'm good at (drawing, writing etc, basically school homework and stuff lol.) but they'd make fun of me for not knowing other stuff. (these same people aren't even all that.)

Also my mom already called me slurs and told me I'm probably sick in the head for stupid stuff i did, but when i got the opportunity of entering tech school she showered me in compliments about my "intelligence" and how gifted i am.. Now if you ask what could she gain from this? She jokes herself about me becoming rich and giving money to her, this is how funny that woman is.
