On June 24, 1952, Waxey Gordon, the legendary former Prohibition era beer baron, labor slugger, dope peddler & pickpocket died at Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Gordon's criminal career spanned from the 1900s to the 1950s. Waxey grew up on Forsyth & Chrystie streets on the Lower East Side.
