Looking for upgrade advice for gaming pc

Was super into pc building a while ago but have been out of the loop with kids and such for the past while so maybe someone can help me figure out the peak of the bell curve? Got a amd 2700x and a 980ti that are sortof keeping up with the games i want to play, helldivers2 mainly every once in a while between homework school and 2 jobs. (got to stay sane somehow) It works enough for games to playable on mid settings. There are a number of processors for the am4 chipset much more powerful than my 2700x and im wondering if its worth the money to go to a 5800xt or something? How much performance difference would i see? Dont have tons of money to dump on it but could probably afford a higher end am4 processor now that they are dated. Thanks in advance.
