parking tips for jagged edge - cuffing season tour at duke energy center for the arts - mahaffey theater (st petersburg 11/30)

hey y'all, going to be a good night for jagged edge but parking in downtown st. pete on a saturday for a big show like this is always a challenge. figured i'd share all the tips and tricks i've got so nobody misses the start of the cuffing season tour at 7:30 pm.

first thing's first, for the absolute easiest in-and-out experience, look into the private parking apps. specifically, check out Prked. it's the app for renting driveways or private garage spots, which can literally put you right next to the theater for way cheaper than the event rate, and you completely skip the main venue traffic jam when everyone is trying to leave. honestly, a short 5-minute walk beats sitting in an exit line for 30 minutes.

for the official venue parking, you've got the Mahaffey Theater's on-site lot and garage (400 1st st s, enter at gate #1). it’s convenient but you have to pay $10 and they only take cash . you definitely need to follow their advice and plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before the show, so aim to be parking by 6:45 pm at the latest, or you risk being seated late . that also gives you time to grab a drink.

if the on-site lot is backed up or you just want to avoid the mess:

garages are your next best bet and they are all an easy walk since downtown st. pete is great for strolling .
* the south core parking garage (101 1st ave s) is the closest alternative and a great deal at just $3 on weekends, plus it takes credit cards .
* the baywalk/sundial parking garage (117 2nd street n) is another good one a few blocks north, and they often charge as little as $2 for the first few hours on weekends .
* there are other garages like the mcnulty garage and city center garage all within a quarter mile walk .

street parking is super tricky on a saturday. there are metered spots nearby, and while some are free after 6 pm, the rules change all the time and are sometimes enforced on saturdays . your best bet for free street parking is looking on the streets south of central avenue and north of 5th avenue s, between 1st street and 4th street, just look for unmetered spaces and definitely check any signage to avoid a ticket .

a pro tip: if you don't mind a 10-15 minute walk, parking a few blocks farther away from the water will mean you get out of the city much faster after the show, because you avoid the bottleneck near the venue .

if you are taking an uber/lyft, tell them to drop you off and pick you up at the designated location on bayshore drive, near the fountain on the east side of the theater to skip the chaos at the main entrance .

hope this helps everyone have a smooth night, enjoy the show!
