How long between fills before a prescription is marked "inactive"?
Hi, I'm prescribed a medication which you only use when needed, so my time between refilling it can vary. My doctor always writes a prescription with 3 fills, and the fastest I'd need to fill would be once a month, so CVS considers this a 3-month supply. Really, I refill about x2/yr.
I usually turn off auto-fill and just refill when needed. However, one time when I went to refill, I found the prescription had been marked as "inactive" because it had been so long (maybe 3-6 months) since I needed a refill. The doctor thought it was still active, and the condition is chronic so there's no reason for the pharmacy to have thought I didn't need it anymore.
I was able to get a new prescription, but I'm facing possibly the same situation now except I've lost my health insurance (and job). I was going to wait to refill until I needed it/could afford it/had insurance, but I'm worried that CVS will mark it "inactive". If that happens, I've got to pay out-of-pocket for both a doctor visit (they won't renew over phone) and the drug.
Does anyone know how long CVS waits before marking a prescription "inactive"?
