Losing my job soon; stacked ranking

about to be laid off

Positing under an alt. I’ve worked at my company the better part of 20 years and a year ago my performance review was changed and I’ve gotten a slew of “you’re not meeting expectations”, “your performance continues to decline”. I was offered the choice between a massive demotion or a 30-day PIP and I’ve already been told by leadership I probably won’t succeed.

I’m about halfway through the PIP and it’s seen some scope creep. I believe my last day is the week before Christmas.

Just FYI:

##I’m already documenting everything##

##I’ve been looking for a job since January (manager told me I should quit)##

##My lawyer is very invested.##

Now that that’s out of the way..

I’ve been interviewing like a demon but no offers. I’ve made it to the third round, twice, and was told they hired someone who was a closer fit. Maybe my time is coming, maybe not
(I’m over 50). But I get recruiter calls several times a week.

But if it does, how do I answer the question of why I’m leaving after sooooo long at the same place? #iI’ve been upskilling furiously the last few years%.

#Has anyone else successfully found their next role after being through something similar?#
