WSID? My best friend keeps bringing up my dad.
From 5th to 7th grade I was extremely depressed and had panic attacks monthly because my brain finally realised that my dad wasn’t coming back. He died from cancer when I was 2 months old so I didn’t know him, but I still love him a lot. My mom got with my stepdad 10 years ago, when I was in 1st grade, and expects me to treat him like a real dad. I really tried to think of him like a dad and even called him dad for like a week because I was jealous of my friends that all had dads. I am now in 10th grade and I really want him back.
Now for the best friend part. Pretty much everyone in school knows that my dad is gone since I’m the only one in school without a dad and when I cried everyday in 6th grade, word spread. When I visited her for the first time, her dad was extremely nice to me and treated me way better than any man ever has. I see him as a uncle/father figure and I told my best friend. She said we could share her dad and that she sees me as a sister, which made me very happy. The weird thing is that ever since I told her that I think about my dad very often and showed her the songs that remind me of him, she has been doing small things that makes me remember him. When we listen to music together, she plays the songs that remind me of him and says “I love this song, it reminds me of my dad”, and avoids eyecontact. She’ll talk about her dad, then see me tearing up and say “oh sorry, I forgot about your dead dad”. Like she always says dead dad when talking about him and my heart shatters a little every time she does. I’ve told her I don’t want to listen to those song and talk about my dad, but she won’t stop. Now I’m tired of it and can feel myself slowly falling into that endless pit again. WSID???
